• You can sign up for PUD fiber service by visiting the Jefferson PUD Broadband page here.

Enter your address and zip code into the fields and select your service type (home or business). Follow the prompts to complete your registration.

Please note: Jefferson PUD is currently constructing fiber to homes and businesses within our grant and loan areas. A project map is available here. Fiber construction is not available in all areas at this time, however, you can still complete the registration application which can aid the utility in identifying potential project areas in the future.

    • Current project areas were chosen because they lacked access to broadband internet speeds via a wireline connection and because they met the requirements of available funding opportunities.

Depending on material availability and staff capacity, the PUD can build to areas adjacent to fiber already installed by the PUD, but this is a secondary priority to building to grant or loan funded project areas.

In the case of the PT Fiber business project, the impetus was a combination of existing fiber, available low interest loan funding and demand from businesses.

    • The PUD’s priority is building to areas that lack broadband speeds, or where strong funding opportunities exist.

Because cable internet provides broadband speeds, and because grant opportunities for building fiber to areas already served by cable providers are very limited, the PUD is not prioritizing building to residential areas currently served with cable internet. While it is possible that the PUD could provide fiber service in areas where cable internet already exists, the customer would have to pay the full cost of installing the connection, generally thousands to tens of thousands of dollars.

    • Just because fiber is nearby, doesn’t mean its available. It could be that the fiber is being fully used, and no extra connections can be added. It could also be the case that though you may be able to see PUD fiber from your home or business, but the connection point (also know as the splice point) is blocks to miles away.

The cost of connecting to splice points varies from a few hundred to tens of thousands of dollars depending on the distance and availability of excess fiber strands. In non-grant funded areas, this cost is currently paid for by the customer. If you are willing to pay the full construction cost, and capacity is available on the fiber line, it is possible the PUD could provide a connection. However, as our priorities are to connect unserved areas and business districts, those projects currently take precedence and it may take some time before the PUD can address or complete a connection to a non-funded on non-priority area.

    • Once your registration is complete you will receive a confirmation email from the PUD.

You are also auto-enrolled to receive update emails for your project area. You can see fiber updates for all buildout areas here.

Fiber is on its way, but it will take time to build. Registering places your home on our construction list. Construction is underway across much of the south- and mid-county, with more than 230 miles of main line and drop fiber being placed through the end of 2024.

Prior to construction of fiber to your home you will receive a broadband service application from the PUD via email. Please complete the service application with the E-signature and submit. This application and service agreement allows contract crews to place the necessary equipment (pictured below) on the exterior of your home. A hard copy of the broadband service application is also available at our 310 Four Corners Customer Service lobby.

    • You can check your registration by visiting the Jefferson PUD Broadband page here

Enter the service address and place the point on the map. If a registration exists you will see the screen below.

If you have any questions regarding your registration, or if you have a need for a second fiber service at the address, please contact our customer service team at: (360) 385-5800.

    • A $750 construction cost share applies to residences signing up after the threshold for a grant area has been met. Threshold percentages are listed below.

The cost share fee can be covered as a one-time payment or over a 36 month period with a $100 down deposit. The fee covers the cost of extending the fiber line to the home and is significantly lower than a typical installation cost outside of a grant construction project. Typically, fiber construction to the home can cost between $3,000 and $10,000 or more.

      Threshold percentage by grant are:

Olympic Fiber Corridor: 60% (threshold has been met)

Inbetweens: 60% (threshold has been met)

Discovery Bay East: 70% (threshold has been met)

Jefferson North: 60% (threshold has been met)

      Southeast Jefferson: 65%

      PT Business District: No threshold

You can find the latest grant area signup percentages here on our Projects page.

    • Yes. Fiber can be run to both locations, but a registration is needed for each site to ensure our engineering and construction crews allocate enough fiber to the area as well as for monthly billing purposes.

What are examples of sites where a second fiber connection might be needed? Additional dwelling unit (ADU), detached shop, tiny home located on property in a fixed location, detached business on property, secondary home, etc.

Please register the primary household first. Example: 310 Four Corners Rd., Port Townsend, WA 98368

When registering the second home (if it does not have a separate mailing address to start with), be sure to add the following, as shown in the following example: 310 Four Corners Rd. (A), Port Townsend, WA 98376

If you have any questions regarding your registration, please contact our customer service team at: (360) 385-5800.

Please note: Each fiber service ran to a property does require a separate monthly service package. A construction cost-share fee ($750)  applies to each service drop if the grant threshold has been reached.

    • If you are a renter, you will need to obtain authorization from the property owner before proceeding with fiber optic installation. Jefferson PUD will need a completed Rental Property Service Authorization form prior to construction.

    • In many cases, no. The PUD offers a mesh device that can help project the Wi-Fi signal from your home to a detached garage or shop. A mesh device can add up to an additional 2,000 square feet of Wi-Fi coverage. The mesh device can be added for an additional $20/mo to your monthly service package.

Metal buildings, concrete construction, and even specific siding types can impact signal strength from a mesh device. Contact our broadband team at broadband@jeffpud.org to learn more and see if a mesh Wi-Fi extender is right for your home.

Additionally, PUD equipment allows for an hardline ethernet connection making it possible to extend the service via cable. Running of a CAT-5 or CAT-6 cable often requires a qualified electrician to complete. Please note: Added distance can degrade internet strength.

    • PUD staff work to update customers in buildout areas at least monthly. If you have not received any email updates, please check your spam folder, or search for email notifications from: broadband@jeffpud.org

If emails have not been received, please reach out to our broadband team at: broadband@jeffpud.org. Staff can confirm the email address listed on the registration is accurate and ensure you receive all the latest from the utility.

If you wish to check all broadband buildout updates, please visit our updates page here.

Below is an example update you will receive.

    • Because the public owns our network, PUD fiber is available for use by any business (internet service provider or ISP) willing to meet the standards set by our elected commission. These standards ensure high quality, safe service for our citizens, and it provides more service choices for our customers.

Contact qualified providers (listed here) about products and services provided over the JPUD network.

Qualified ISPs are required to provide customers access to a support number that is available 24/7, 365. The ISP will handle any service issue, or enlist the PUD if fiber or equipment is damaged.

As part of PUD service, a designated PUD WiFi router is always provided. With our Qualified ISPs, you can supply your own, or explore their recommended options.

No matter who provides your monthly internet service over PUD fiber, data caps are not allowed. Use as much monthly data as needed without fear of penalties or upcharges.
