• You can view the current PUD fiber buildout on our Projects page here.

Mapping provides layers for existing fiber, new construction, and fiber to be run. Please note: The default setting for the fiber map has all layers turned off. To access each layer, select the layer drop-down menu on the left side legend (see below).

    • Prior to fiber construction in your area you will receive an email from Jefferson PUD outlining the installation process and links to E-sign a Fiber Service Agreement. The agreement is needed to complete installation of fiber to the residence and for connecting then network device to the home.

As part of the agreement form, please select a monthly service package and any additional services you would like to add. Selecting a package is required so we can provide the proper in-home equipment when it is time for final installation.

Please note: You may change your service package at any time. The PUD is offering fiber with no contract or data caps. Just let us know if you would like to upgrade your package or add any additional service offerings! Email our Broadband team at: broadband@jeffpud.org or give us a call at: (360) 379-5823

    • PUD fiber often follows the existing utility pathway to the home. This can be overhead or underground.

OVERHEAD: For overhead construction, a PUD fiber tech will run the line from the roadway to the home, with the fiber connecting to the home often near the electrical meter location. Fiber is placed inside conduit for added protection. Once at the appropriate height, the fiber will be inserted into a Network Interface Device (NID), which is a small gray communication box with the PUD’s logo and contact number on the face.

UNDERGROUND: For underground construction, a PUD contractor will follow locate marks painted within the work area.

Contractors will direct-bury the fiber line to the home. This often involves use of a vibratory plow and, as they arrive at the home, hand-digging.

Once at the home, a loop of fiber will be left aboveground. In the coming days a separate splicing contractor will arrive to connect the fiber loop to a NID. Fiber will be placed inside conduit and connected to the NID which is mounted to the side of the home.

Please note: Contract crews do their best to minimize impact to vegetation and driveway conditions. Unfortunately, damage can occur due to the nature of using a vibrating plow or hand-digging near the home. Please let our crews know if any unseen obstacles (updated water lines, extension of power, septic lines, etc.) intersect with locate markings on the property. Crews are equipped to conduct immediate repairs, if needed. If you have questions/concerns regarding fiber routing, please contact our broadband team at: broadband@jeffpud.org or (360) 379-5823

    • JPUD will accept registrations for fiber installation to vacant land.

Such properties may be subject to the $750 construction cost-share charge for a given project area. In that situation, inhabited parcels with existing PUD services would have priority access to the no-charge installation. The construction cost-share charge form can be found here.

Preference may also be given to properties with existing PUD services, such as electric or water, but no serviceable structure.

    • If red paint shows up on your road or in your yard, it’s because we marked the electric service. Orange is for phone or cable. Water is blue. White paint marks where the contractor intends to work.

While the locators do their best, some lines get missed and damage may occur. Some underground utilities appear that no one would have ever known to look for. However, any utilities that are damaged by the contractor will be repaired immediately.

Our contractors will do there best to restore any roads or properties that are affected by construction. We cannot guarantee that roads or sites will be restored to everyone’s specification.

Call or email us right away if you have an issue. broadband@jeffpud.org or 360 379 5823.

    • A PUD splicing contractor will connect the Network Interface Device (NID) to the outside of the home. The NID is a small gray case designed to protect your homes strand of fiber.

Please note: You will need to be home during the in-home installation process window.

During your fiber installation window, a PUD technician will run the fiber to an entry point on the home within 50′ either direction of the NID. Fiber equipment in the home requires power to be within 6′ of the entry point.

PUD fiber technicians cannot fish fiber through interior walls, enter crawl spaces, or attics. For placement of the fiber into a specific network room not accessible from an exterior wall, please contact an electrical contractor.

Once inside the home the PUD technician will finalize the installation by connecting the included PUD modem and router and helping walk you through the basics of the network and ensure a speed test is completed.

Our technicians are happy to provide additional information about product options and availablity for your service!

    • When our fiber techs enter your area you will receive an email from the PUD with a link to an online time slot reservation system. Select a date and time slot when you or a member of the household will be present.

PUD staff are conducting hundreds of in-home installations throughout the remainder of 2024 and into 2025, so select your time slot once you see the email!
