Board Approves Permission to Apply for PWB Loan for Bywater Bay Waterline Extension

The PUD water resource team received approval by commissioners to apply for loan funds of approximately $884,000 to construct a 2,700-foot-long water line extension for the Bywater Bay water system. The loan would be through the Public Works Board and would cover engineering, permitting and construction costs.

The nearly 1/2-mile water line extension would connect two dead end water mains to improve water quality, pressure. and fire flow to the area.

A timeline for construction is based upon the loan application and engineering needs for the project. The waterline extension will require boring underneath highway 104 in an area with work to be conducted by the Washington Department of Transportation (WSDOT). WSDOT begins work on a roundabout project for highway 104 on the west end of the Hood Canal bridge beginning in Spring of 2023, with an estimate completion of Fall 2024. PUD staff continue to work with WSDOT to determine project timelines and overlaps.
